Cyber Security Specialist

Job Description:  Cybersecurity Specialist



We are seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a Cybersecurity Specialist supporting the development, analysis, and cybersecurity reporting requirements for the National Guard Bureau. We are looking for someone with strong communication and organizational skills, experience working across all levels of the DoD, and demonstrated knowledge of federal and DoD cybersecurity policy and procedures.  


  • Support DoD and National Guard emerging cybersecurity requirements to manage vulnerabilities within federal programs and systems
  • Support RMF assessment and authorization activities and advise customer or changes affecting the organizations cybersecurity posture and risk levels
  • Leverage DoD mandated tools to collect, analyze, and maintain the organizationís cybersecurity information to meet reporting requirements
  • Support the development of briefs, point papers, and white papers to inform senior leadership of emerging policy requirments and system vulnerabilities
  • Evaluate cybersecurity efforts to ensure baseline security safeguards are implemented on customer information systems
  • Prepare, distribute, and maintain plans, instructions, guidance, and SOPs concerning the security of the organizationís information system operations
  • Support the organizationís CPIC and ITPfM processes by identifying security requirements specific to customer information systems in all phases of the SDLC
  • Identify alternative information security strategies to address the organizationís security objectives


  • B.A or B.S degree.  Four years of directly relevant program management experience drafting, interpreting, and analyzing cybersecurity policy  
  • Ten (10) years of IT experience; Four (4) years experience implementing the NIST RMF
  • Must have at a minimum and Information Assurance Management (IAM) Level II certification IAW DoD 8570.01-M 
  • Top Secret Clearance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DoD and Federal cybersecurity policy, cybersecurity principles, and federal risk management processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


  • Knowledge of cloud computing architectures, LAN/WAN networking, cybersecurity assessment tools, and industry security best practices (e.g. defense-in-depth)
  • Experience supporting RMF Assessment and Authorization activities
  • Experience with ACAS, HBSS, and eMASS
  • Experience with the National Guard Bureau a plus
